A Texas based coffee company voluntarily recalled coffee consisting of an ingredient quite similar to what is in the erectile dysfunction drug Viagra, the USA Food, and Drug Administration announced.

Following an FDA laboratory confirmed the existence of desmethyl vardenafil from the grounds, Bestherbs Coffee LLC remembered all New Kopi Jantan Traditional Natural Herbs Coffee. Desmethyl vardenafil is quite similar to sildenafil, the active ingredient in Viagra according to the FDA.

The undeclared ingredient may interplay with nitrates found in some prescription drugs, like nitroglycerin, and may lower blood pressure. Men with heart sickness, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, or diabetes frequently take medications that include nitrates.

The coffee includes undeclared milk, the recall announcement said. Run the risk of a severe or life threatening allergic reaction if they consume this product. No illnesses have been reported.

Individuals who have been advised to contact their doctor or healthcare provider.

The coffee was promoted as a male enhancement product and sold on the internet nationwide from July 2014 June 2016. The company is currently contacting customers by phone, the FDA said.
